Usually, by the end of the week, we get a fresh batch of mock drafts. In this week’s roundup, the goal is to see if there are any new players or positions the San Francisco 49ers are linked to.
Let’s start with a three-round mock from ESPN that was published on Thursday morning:
No. 27:Reid’s pick: KC Concepcion, WR, Texas A&M
Concepcion is tailor-made for the Kyle Shanahan offense, as he’s an explosive YAC receiver who can align at multiple spots and is capable of running any route on the route tree.
No. 58:Miller’s pick: Caleb Tiernan, OT, Northwestern
Tiernan is exactly the type of savvy, experienced tackle prospect the 49ers need to prepare for life after Trent Williams.
Earlier in the week, ESPN’s Matt Miller did a 7-round mock:
No. 27 Caleb Lomu, OT, Utah
I feel like I predict that the 49ers will draft their offensive tackle of the future every year, yet they never do. Considering that All-Pro Trent Williams will be 38 and is in the midst of a contract impasse, this would be a good time for San Francisco to finally make that pick. Lomu started at left tackle during the past two seasons, allowing only three sacks (all in 2024). He plays with the agility and balance needed for the 49ers’ offensive scheme.
No. 58: Gabe Jacas, Edge, Illinois
The 49ers had the fewest sacks of any team in the NFL last season and have edge starters Nick Bosa and Mykel Williams rehabbing from torn ACLs. They need depth. Jacas has great power, despite limited twitch, and a well-developed pass-rush plan.
127. San Francisco 49ers: Logan Jones, C, Iowa
133. San Francisco 49ers*: Charles Demmings, CB, Stephen F. Austin
138. San Francisco 49ers*: Deontae Lawson, LB, Alabama
139. San Francisco 49ers*: Darrell Jackson Jr., DT, Florida State
A draft where four of your six picks are in the trenches would leave the 49ers brass feeling pretty good coming out of draft weekend.
CBS Sports had the 49ers taking a familiar wide receiver in Round 1:
In my first mock, I had Boston going to San Francisco, writing at the time that he’s always struck me as a perfect fit in a Kyle Shanahan offense. I’m glad I was able to reunite them here in my fourth go-round.
NFL.com has a plethora of options to choose from. Let’s go through each.
No. 27 – Keldric Faulk – Auburn – DL
If the 49ers are planning for the future, they’ll target an offensive tackle. After last year’s injury-riddled experience, however, they decide to seek depth on the defensive side, leading GM John Lynch to add another edge rusher to a group headlined by Nick Bosa and Mykel Williams. If this defense is going to climb out of the cellar in the sacks department, San Francisco will need an army of quarterback hunters.
Faulk went from being mocked in the top 15 to falling to the 49ers all of a sudden. And it’s not like he tested poorly or ran slow at his pro day. He ran a 4.67 at 276 pounds. That also comes with jumps in the 96th and 97th percentiles, and in arm length at the 85th percentile. Faulk is the best run defender in this class.
The other picks in the first round were Concepcion, Lomu, offensive tackle Blake Miller from Clemson, and edge rusher Cashius Howell from Texas A&M.
Here’s the four-round mock:
27: Caleb Lomu
58: RB Jadarian Price, Notre Dame
127: WR Brenen Thompson, Mississippi State
133: EDGE LT Overton, Alabama
138: LT Jude Bowry, Boston College
139: CB Chandler Rivers, Duke
Pass on Price, even though he’s probably long gone by the fourth. I’d roll the dice on Emmett Johnson out of Nebraska or Jonah Coleman from Washington at this point in the draft. Would want nothing to do with Thompson. Don’t know much about Overton. Bowry was mocked in the first round during the preseason. Rivers is probably a nickel, but he’s fiesty and could see why you’d take him on Day 3.
