Alabama coast faces record breaking invasion of this smelly lifeform

This photo shows sargassum, or seaweed, covering the Atlantic shore in Frigate Bay, St. Kitts and Nevis in August 2022.  A new study by Florida Atlantic University shows the seaweed contains bacteria harmful to both humans and animals.

Gulf Coast beachgoers are currently dealing with massive amounts of sargassum seaweed washing up on Alabama shores, and researchers say there’s more to come.
