The National Weather Service in Birmingham's radar, based in Calera, was not working on Wednesday as technicians hurried to get it back in service in time for storms expected later today. The image above shows another WSR-88D radar like the one in Calera.

Severe weather is anticipated in Alabama on Wednesday, and the National Weather Service in Birmingham could be facing it without its main weather radar.
