Wins & Lessons Foundation (@winsandlessons_li), in collaboration with Take Action LA, Compton Unified School Board Member Michael Hooper, the Mentors 2 the Trenches Initiative, and the Al Barro Foundation, will host the inaugural Built Different: Youth Empowerment & Mental Wellness Summit on Sunday, May 17, 2026, from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Compton/Woodley Airport in Compton, California.

Held during Mental Health Awareness Month, the completely free community event is expected to welcome approximately 2,000 attendees, including nearly 1,000 middle and high school students, for an afternoon centered around youth empowerment, emotional wellness, trauma recovery, mentorship, and community healing. There will be plenty of activities on site including horseback rides, helicopter rides, games of soccer and golf, giveaways, free food from our vendor partners, and much more.

At a time when conversations around youth mental health, grief, and community trauma are more urgent than ever, Built Different aims to create a safe, culturally relevant space where young people and families can openly access support, resources, and honest dialogue around healing and resilience.

“This event is deeply personal and mission-driven for us,” said organizers from Wins & Lessons Foundation. “The goal is not simply to create a viral moment, but to create a safe, healing, culturally relevant experience that genuinely impacts youth and families in the community. Our goal is to normalize conversations around mental health while connecting the community with real resources, mentorship, and opportunities for healing.”

The summit will feature licensed mental health professionals, wellness advocates, community organizations, and influential voices who authentically connect with youth culture. Attendees can expect panel discussions, interactive wellness activations, motivational conversations, community resources, and engagement opportunities designed to encourage emotional wellness and resilience.

Confirmed participants include:

  • Jay Cinco (@therealjaycincoo) — Rapper, internet personality, and panelist
  • Watts Homie Quan (@wattshomiequan) — Comedian, actor, internet personality, and panelist
  • Morgan Westbrooks (@morgandwestbrooks) — Musician, influencer, and panelist
  • Angel The God (@angeltheg0d) — Influencer, content creator, entrepreneur, and panelist
  • Dr. Krystyl Wright, LCSW (@krystylwrightlcsw) — Licensed Clinical Social Worker, mental health professional, and moderator

Topics throughout the event will include mental health awareness, trauma, grief, suicide prevention, overcoming adversity, family responsibility, and personal growth.

Organizers say what makes Built Different unique is its intentional blend of culture, mental health advocacy, mentorship, and community-centered healing in a format that authentically resonates with Compton youth and families. The event will also include wellness activations, resource engagement opportunities, influencer interactions, and even helicopter ride experiences for attendees.

The summit’s long-term vision extends beyond a single event. Organizers hope to continue building awareness around youth mental health, strengthen community partnerships, create lasting impact for families, and expand future programming across Los Angeles communities.
