Derwin Lee Butler Jr has built his career around a simple idea: entrepreneurship should create more than businesses—it should create opportunities.
Working across transportation, financial education, technology, entertainment, and personal development, Butler has developed a diverse portfolio of ventures while
maintaining a consistent focus on helping people gain the knowledge, confidence, and practical tools needed to build stronger economic futures.
Rather than following a single career path, Butler has built his experience across several industries, applying lessons learned in one business to opportunities in another. His work includes 700 Family Transpo, Actif Gentlemen, Score Up, and Imblem, as well as entrepreneurial coaching and volunteer work supporting nonprofit organizations
throughout California.
Building Businesses by Building People
A major part of Butler’s professional experience has come through 700 Family Transpo, where his work in sales has extended into employee recruitment and development,
marketing, and the creation of business-development systems designed to support company growth.
His experience in transportation has also shaped his interest in workforce development.
One of the initiatives he is developing is a driver-training program designed for newly licensed commercial drivers who need something many new CDL holders struggle to obtain: real-world experience.
The concept is designed to provide additional training and practical on-the-road experience while giving drivers an opportunity to earn income as they strengthen their professional
skills.
For Butler, that reflects a larger philosophy about entrepreneurship. A successful company shouldn’t simply generate revenue; when possible, it should also create a pathway for
other people to advance.
Developing the Person Behind the Business
That philosophy extends beyond transportation.
As Founder and Creative Director of Actif Gentlemen, Derwin Butler has developed a men’s lifestyle and personal-development concept built around leadership, finance, entrepreneurship, character, identity, mindset, and resilience.
The purpose goes beyond conventional men’s lifestyle branding.
Actif Gentlemen is centered on encouraging men to become more intentional about who they are becoming, what they are building, and ultimately what they intend to leave behind.
Derwin’s long-term vision expands the concept even further.
He envisions Actif Gentlemen developing into a destination for current and aspiring entrepreneurs—a community where people can build relationships, develop leadership skills, form business and investment groups, and participate in entrepreneurial, cultural, and entertainment experiences.
In that vision, business development and personal development aren’t separate. One strengthens the other.
Making Financial Knowledge Practical
Butler has applied a similar philosophy to financial education through Score Up, a program focused on personal credit and financial literacy.
Score Up was developed to help underserved and disadvantaged communities better
understand how personal credit actually works—from establishing credit and building it to maintaining it and understanding its role in broader financial opportunities.
The emphasis is practical.
Financial terminology can be intimidating, particularly for people who were never taught how credit works in the first place. Butler’s approach is rooted in making that information understandable enough for people to use in everyday life.
That work reflects one of the recurring themes throughout his ventures: knowledge becomes more valuable when people can turn it into action. Rethinking the Relationship Between Creators and Their Communities
Butler’s entrepreneurial interests also extend into the creative economy through Imblem.
Imblem was created around a different way of thinking about the relationship between creators and the people who support them. The venture explores models through which
artists can build deeper economic relationships with their fans and communities, including concepts involving royalty sharing and financial participation.
The idea addresses a longstanding challenge for independent creators.
Artists may have talent and an audience but still struggle to access the resources needed to develop, market, and expand their work.
Imblem explores whether technology can help narrow that gap by creating a more direct connection between creative projects and the communities that believe in them.
For Derwin Butler, the concept fits naturally with his broader entrepreneurial philosophy:
create systems that give people another path forward. Technology Meets Financial Empowerment
That same thinking is behind ACTIF PAY, another concept Butler is developing at the intersection of financial technology and education.
The proposed AI-integrated financial platform is being designed to help individuals manage and build personal and business credit while bringing together services such as credit
monitoring, peer-to-peer transfers, and other financial tools.
While the industries may appear different—transportation, financial technology, men’s development, credit education, and the creative economy—the underlying philosophy is remarkably consistent.
Each venture attempts to solve a practical problem. How does a new commercial driver get experience?
How does someone who never learned about credit begin understanding it? How can an entrepreneur become a stronger leader?
How can a creator develop a stronger economic relationship with the community supporting their work?
The businesses are different.
The mission behind them is not. Education as a Continuing Process
Derwin Lee Butler’s entrepreneurial development has also included formal and professional education.
He has pursued entrepreneurship education through the Drucker School of Management at Claremont Graduate University and completed online programs through Yale
University in financial markets and the science of well-being. His professional development also includes certifications in project management and Google Ads.
He has supplemented that education with the practical experience of building businesses, developing teams, creating programs, working in sales and marketing, and participating in entrepreneurial coaching and volunteer initiatives with nonprofit organizations throughout California.
Together, those experiences have shaped a philosophy in which education isn’t something that ends with a certificate.
It is something that should eventually become execution.
Designing a Legacy With Intention
The common thread running through Butler’s work is intentionality. Businesses can change.
Industries can change.
Technology certainly changes.
But Butler’s underlying philosophy is more personal: people should take an active role in deciding what kind of life they intend to build and what they want that life to represent when they are finished.
He summarizes that philosophy in his own words:
“I am the ultimate designer of the life and legacy that I want to live and leave. Everything else is just noise.”
That statement helps explain why his work stretches across seemingly unrelated industries.
The goal isn’t simply to own multiple businesses.
It’s to build things that can outlast the initial idea—to develop people, create opportunities, transfer knowledge, and build systems that give others the ability to move forward.
Today, Butler continues developing ventures across entrepreneurship, transportation, technology, financial education, and personal development. His plans include expanding opportunities for commercial-driver training, developing ACTIF PAY, growing the Actif
Gentlemen community, and continuing to develop Imblem’s approach to connecting artists with the communities surrounding their work.
Different businesses. Different industries. Different audiences.
But one consistent objective:
Build something meaningful. Develop people. Create opportunities. And leave a legacy by design—not by accident.
