People who intentionally drive away from police will soon face tougher penalties in Alabama.

Gov. Kay Ivey on Thursday signed into law SB233, which makes it a felony to elude police in a vehicle. Under the legislation sponsored by Sen. Lance Bell, R-Pell City, a conviction will carry a sentence of up to five years in jail.
