It wasn’t a surprise to see former San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Jauan Jennings not sign during the first wave of free agency. He felt like a player who would sign toward the end of the week, if not over the weekend.

Here we are, more than a month and a half since the start of free agency, and Jennings remains unsigned. The 49ers elected not to bring back Jennings after essentially three seasons of one-year deals followed by a two-year extension in 2024. Jennings held out during training camp in 2025. It was under the guise of a hip injury, but Jennings wanted more money. He ultimately got his wish and played out the season.

A season after nearly missing a 1,000-yard season, Jennings had a career-high in touchdowns with 9, but that came after averaging 42.9 yards per game. The fact that Jennings has made a name for himself all these years later, after being drafted in the 7th round of the 2020 NFL Draft, is a testament.

While Jennings may have overplayed his hand and overpriced himself in the market, there remains interest in him. According to the Miami Herald’s Barry Jackson, the Dolphins are keeping an eye on Jennings:

“In fact, according to a source, the Dolphins — since the start of free agency — have shown interest in 49ers free agent receiver Jauan Jennings. But they don’t have the money to meet his contractual wishes, and Sullivan has said Miami isn’t going to spend big in free agency after June 1. Miami appreciates Jennings’ size (6-3) and skills.

Free agents like Jennings and Joey Bosa will likely need to wait until after June 1. Between not counting toward the comp pick formula to the proration on a player’s current contract, there are several reasons June 1 is a significant date.

The Dolphins drafted three wide receivers and signed two others during free agency. They are desperate for wide receiver help. Hopefully Jennings can find a landing spot in Miami. If not there, prove he’s worthy of a roster spot somewhere by training camp.
