FREAKS ON PARADE: Marilyn Manson & Rob Zombie

1 month ago 28

Rob Zombie and Marilyn Manson’s Freaks on Parade is more than a concert—it’s a full-scale collision of horror, heavy metal, theatrical spectacle and unapologetic rock ’n’ roll. Back on the road and for longtime fans and newer audiences, makes you want to join the freak show.

Marilyn Manson brings the darkness, commanding the stage with his unmistakable presence and a set spanning some of his most iconic material. Songs like “The Beautiful People,” “The Dope Show,” “Disposable Teens” and “Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)” remind audiences why his music became such a defining force in alternative rock. Rob Zombie, transforming the venue into a twisted horror carnival with massive visuals, monsters, fire and fan favourites including “Superbeast,” “Living Dead Girl,” and “House of 1000 Corpses.”

What I liked most about the night was that neither artist seemed interested in trying to recreate the past. Of course, there was plenty of nostalgia in the crowd, but this wasn’t simply a trip back to the ’90s. It felt like watching two artists who created their own worlds years ago still living inside them—and still finding an audience that wants to come along. Add the HU and Orgy to the lineup and you have a pretty unusual mix of sounds and personalities, which is exactly what makes Freaks on Parade work. It’s loud, strange, theatrical and a show that cannot be missed.

There’s something about a Rob Zombie and Marilyn Manson show that you really have to experience in person. You can watch the videos, hear the songs and see the photos, but none of that quite captures what it feels like when the lights go down and the entire place shifts into something darker.
