Former Appalachian Athletic Conference commissioner Bill Popp has been hired as the next commissioner of the Gulf South Conference, the league announced Tuesday afternoon.
Popp will be the Alabama-based conference’s eighth commissioner since its inception in 1971 and officially begins his tenure on Aug. 3. He replaces Matt Wilson, who is now the commissioner of the Division I Ohio Valley Conference.
