Harper Lee was born 100 years ago. Here’s how Alabama is celebrating

Nelle Harper Lee, the Pulitzer Prize-winning author of “To Kill a Mockingbird,” was born in Monroeville on April 28, 1926. To celebrate the birth of one of Alabama’s most famous natives, Gov. Kay Ivey is declaring April 28, 2026, as Harper Lee Centennial Day.
