Former employees accused of defrauding a Baldwin County philanthropic foundation out of $2.5 million have fired back in court, saying they did nothing improper and that the real issue is a board that comprehensively failed in its oversight responsibilities.
Earlier in October, The Snook Foundation filed suits against three former employees as well as an accountant and his firm. The suits claim that Brenda Lee, her son Thomas E. Lee II and his wife, Heather Lee, set up a pension plan without authorization and then funded it with unapproved foundation payments over a period of several years.
