Something special is brewing in R&B, and it’s a young crooner named Jelani. His new project, Reveal, is aptly named because he’s stepped out of the backdrop into a solid place in the genre. Powerful voice, great storytelling, and overall sonic presence on this project portend great things for the fabric of R&B music, imo.
I could get technical and discuss his use of timbre and intonation, etc., but hey, you can decide for yourself. It’s a 4/5 for me across the board, as honestly, it was difficult to choose a favorite on this project.
