Kendra Chanae – Melting Faces

1 month ago 6

Some records don’t need an intro. This is one of them.

“Melting Faces” is quiet R&B done right. Not quiet like boring. Quiet like confident. Kendra Chanae knows what she has and she doesn’t push it.

Her voice sits. That’s the only way to describe it. Low, controlled, not trying to impress anybody. You notice it more because of what she doesn’t do.

Scooby Austin produced this. He’s out of Michigan and he’s been working with Chanae on a run of recent tracks. Good fit. The beat breathes. Nothing cluttered. Nothing showing off.

You play this late. You play it again.

Chanae got a Recording Academy “For Your Consideration” nod last year. 67th Grammy Awards. Best Traditional R&B Performance for “Feeling Good.” That’s not luck. You don’t land on that ballot by accident.

“Melting Faces” fits somewhere between neo-soul and modern R&B. Not retro. Not trying to be trendy either. Just honest music that sounds like it was made by someone with taste.

Independent artists chase a sound for years. Some never find it. Chanae has hers. Been refining it track by track with Scooby Austin and the results speak.

This one sticks.
