Lawsuit threatens birthing options for Alabamians

Nevaeh Wilhite had a traumatic experience when she gave birth to her first child at a hospital in 2023. She wanted something different for her second birth. She did a bit of googling and was relieved when she found the Alabama Birth Center in Huntsville, 35 miles from her home in Hartselle. On the Alabama Birth Center website, it’s described as a holistic birth facility that follows the midwifery model of care to provide personalized and comprehensive maternity care.

Now, she’s worried that expecting parents who want to avoid hospitals will choose to give birth at home or cross state lines to give birth due to a lawsuit that could shut down the centers in the state.
