It’s one thing to know the Detroit Lions are a gritty team, but it’s a whole other to experience it up close and personal.

Third-year cornerback Terrion Arnold relived his first Lions training camp in 2024 in an interview on “NFL Spotlight with Ari Meirov.” He said the major thing that jumped out at him—just how hard and intense the camps are.

“Hard and intensity are two totally different things,” he explained. “Hard is—you can go out and practice and you can make something hard, but to be able to have that level of intensity for two hours, and to just go out there and see the best players in the NFL doing it.”

Part of the learning process for any newer athlete is learning from veterans and other highly skilled players. Arnold specifically named a few, including Penei Sewell, Jameson Williams, Jared Goff, and said they hold the players around them to a high standard.

“If they beat me on something, he’ll come back and tell me why he did it,” Arnold said of quarterback Jared Goff. “Or what he’s reading or what he’s looking at, so that right there was everything to me. It just helped me become a better player and transition to the player that I want to become.”

It’s well known there’s quite the learning curve at the cornerback position between college and NFL. All of a sudden, Arnold said he was defending some of the top receivers in the league when he first joined the Lions in 2024.

“One thing about corner, man, it’s the most analyzed and most (criticized) position. Your mistakes are in front of everybody, and I wouldn’t have it any other way,” Arnold said.

Between a shoulder injury and a concussion, Arnold missed nine games last season and required season-ending surgery after the Thanksgiving game. He recently told Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press that he expects to be back in action for Lions training camp this August.

On the podcast episode, the pair also touched on how Arnold adapted to living in a snowy state, the work he does for his community, and much more. You can watch the interview in full below:

And onto the rest of your notes.

  • Over on The Feed, a good catch by user joecoolio — former Lions QB Hendon Hooker has signed with the Tennessee Titans. The Lions drafted Hooker in the third round of the 2023 NFL Draft and waived him in August of 2025. Since then, he’s been with the Carolina Panthers and New York Jets.
  • I mentioned in last week’s Notes that superstitious people may want some Lions players, including Jahmyr Gibbs, in the house again for Game 7 if they want another win … and he was also in the house Tuesday night at LCA. Confirmed good luck charms!

  • Another day, another charity event for Lions WR Jameson Williams.
