Lyric League Returns to Detroit’s 8 Mile for a Cypher

2 weeks ago 17

The Lyric League Series returned to Detroit’s 8 Mile, setting up at Ken’s BBQ for an edition focused on giving local MCs a platform to showcase their writing and delivery.

Presented by The Punchline Academy on Shade 45, the session brought together artists recruited by Mikey Eckstein, who headed into the city to find rappers ready to represent the Motor City. Da Inphamus Amadeuz provided an original beat for the cypher, giving each participant a shared musical foundation for their verse.

Taking the Mic Back to 8 Mile

For this Detroit stop, Lyric League put its emphasis on the artists working to make their voices heard today. The setting at Ken’s BBQ brought the series into a neighborhood business, where participants stepped to the mic one by one.

Eckstein’s role connected the street-level search for talent with the performance itself. The format gave local rappers an opportunity to introduce their styles through the work: their verses, timing and presence on the microphone.

Detroit’s place in Hip Hop provided the backdrop, while the participating MCs supplied the focus of this edition.

An Original Beat for the Cypher

Da Inphamus Amadeuz’s contribution extended beyond his role as host of The Punchline Academy. He produced the original instrumental used for the session, connecting his work behind the boards with the series’ emphasis on lyricism.

A shared beat gives listeners a way to compare how different MCs approach the same production. Cadence, phrasing and word choice become part of the conversation as each artist takes a turn.

Lyric League is inviting viewers to join that discussion with a direct question: Who had the best verse?

The Punchline Academy’s Platform for MCs

Hosted by Da Inphamus Amadeuz, The Punchline Academy combines freestyles, emerging artists and established voices from across Hip Hop. Its programming also includes “The Left Lane Mix,” which pairs Hip Hop classics with new records.

The Lyric League Series extends that focus into on-location sessions, giving artists a space to perform and audiences an opportunity to encounter talent from different cities.

Beyond the radio show, Amadeuz works as an artist, producer, videographer and entrepreneur. His background also includes guest DJ appearances for the New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden.

The Punchline Academy airs Wednesdays at 9 p.m. Eastern and 6 p.m. Pacific on Shade 45, SiriusXM.
