Nearly three-quarters of Alabama residents struggle to afford at least one essential need such as housing, food, health care or childcare, according to a new national analysis that shows the state exceeding national averages in several key areas of economic hardship.
The Family Economic Well-Being Index, released Sept. 24 by the Georgetown Center on Poverty and Inequality, found that 72% of Alabama residents face affordability burdens compared to 70% of people nationwide.
