Making the case for the Commanders drafting LSU’s Mansoor Delane

1 hour ago 1

Because of how Washington moved in free agency, they have created the ability to go down several different paths with the seventh overall draft pick later this month. Compared to running back, wide receiver, and safety, cornerback may be the least-discussed position for Washington out of the position groups. NFL Draft analyst Doug Farrar filled the void, though, mocking LSU’s Mansoor Delane to the Washington Commanders with their first pick.

Washington has solid depth, but there is a lack of top-end talent at outside cornerback. Farrar, who is an analyst for Athlon Sports and SB Nation, likes Delane and Tennessee’s Jermod McCoy as well for Washington. While Farrar believes McCoy is a very efficient press corner, he chose Delane for Washington over McCoy because Delane is smoother overall and better in off coverage. He describes Delane as an eraser and as ready as a prospect could be for the NFL, and a player that Daronte Jones wouldn’t have to hide any part of his playbook because of how good Delane is in all coverage techniques.

On the latest Trap or Dive Podcast, we discussed NFL draft prospects with Farrar and what would make sense for Washington with their top 100 draft picks.
