Members of the Birmingham Youth & Young Adult Fellowship Choir, who made their way to the semifinals of America’s Got Talent last year, are now set to record their first live album.
On Saturday, July 18, at 3 p.m., the choir will host a live album recording at Guiding Light Church, located at 1800 John Rogers Drive, Birmingham, AL 35210.
“This is a major milestone for our choir,” said Ahkeem R. Lee, founder and executive artistic director of the choir.
The recording will feature all original music performed by the choir, which comprises nearly 60 young voices from the Birmingham area.
“For us, this is more than just a concert,” Lee said. “It is a moment that represents years of work, faith, sacrifice and the gifts of so many young people who are using their voices positively.”
Last year, the troupe earned plenty of praise and fans throughout Season 20 of the NBC reality competition series America’s Got Talent. The choir advanced to the semifinals of the show with celebrity judge Simon Cowell as its champion.

(Trae Patton, NBC)The group earned a coveted Golden Buzzer from Cowell during its initial audition, which aired in July of 2025. The choir’s performance of “Joyful, Joyful” impressed the notoriously tough judge and allowed the singers to advance directly from the auditions to the quarterfinals. The singers also impressed Cowell during the quarterfinals, performing vignettes of two songs: Fatboy Slim’s “Praise You” and Kirk Franklin’s “When I Think About Jesus.”
America’s Got Talent gave the members of the Birmingham Youth & Young Adult Fellowship Choir the chance to share their sound and story on a national platform.
“While we are grateful for that opportunity, this live recording is especially meaningful because it brings this moment back home to Birmingham,” Lee said, “where the choir was founded and where so many of our young people live, learn, worship, and serve.”
The group’s latest singles, “While It’s Still Fresh (On My Mind)” and “Jesus Saves,” a collaboration with Chris Tomlin, are available now on all streaming platforms.
