Mobile County commissioners tell residents they can’t halt $6 billion data center

Bailey requested the Mobile County Commission, on Monday, July 13, 2026, to consider taking some action against the project. County commissioners, however, said they did not have the authority to do anything.

Data centers are emerging nationwide as companies race to capitalize on artificial intelligence, even as residents in Mobile County worry the trend could disturb bear habitats or cause cattle to become sterile.
