Montgomery police staffing bill will ‘make this a safer place,’ GOP says

A bill to require the city of Montgomery to meet a target for staffing its police force or face possible intervention by the state moved a step closer to becoming law on Wednesday.

Montgomery Mayor Steven Reed and Police Chief Jim Graboys urged the House Public Safety and Homeland Security Committee to reject the bill, SB298 by Sen. Will Barfoot, a Republican who represents the city.
