Southwest Airlines has changed its seating policy for plus-size passengers, allowing gate agents to arrange a free second seat at the airport when space is available rather than requiring advance purchase.

The Dallas-based carrier implemented the more restrictive prepurchase requirement in January, which forced travelers who need extra room to book and pay for a second seat upfront and then request a refund after their trip.
