We are officially in the month of April with free agency mostly over. From this point forward, teams will put most of their focus around the NFL Draft. To get a better sense of where things stand for the Los Angeles Rams ahead of the draft, let’s take a look at their depth chart.
Quarterback
- QB1: Matthew Stafford
- QB2: Stetson Bennett
When it comes to the quarterback position, there are still some questions. If the season were to start on Sunday, Stetson Bennett would be the backup quarterback to Matthew Stafford. I’m not sure how many would be confident in that scenario. This isn’t a worry about a scenario in which Stafford misses significant time like 2022. In that case, the Rams are screwed either way. This is about a scenario in which Stafford misses one game like 2023 and the Rams have to roll out Brett Rypien. Is Bennett a player that can keep the train on the tracks like Tyler Huntley or Malik Willis did last year for the Baltimore Ravens and Green Bay Packers? No matter what you think about Bennett, there are some questions there. Kirk Cousins signing with the Las Vegas Raiders may force the Rams’ hand here with a rookie or Jimmy Garoppolo. However, it appears the Rams are trying to keep their options open.

Running Back
- RB1: Kyren Williams
- RB2: Blake Corum
- RB3: Ronnie Rivers
- RB4: Jarquez Hunter
- RB5: Jordan Waters
Not many would have been thrilled when the Rams brought back Ronnie Rivers on a one-year deal. While he brings special teams upside, there is also a scenario in which Rivers is the third running back and is the player on the field for a random series in the NFC Championship game. The hope here will be that Hunter takes a step forward and takes on more of a role in 2026. While the Rams have drafted a running back in each of the last nine drafts, if you include Sam Rogers, they may be set at this position for now unless Jeremiyah Love surprisingly falls.

Wide Receiver
- WR1: Puka Nacua
- WR2: Davante Adams
- WR3: Xavier Smith
- WR4: Jordan Whittington
- WR5: Konata Mumpfield
- WR6: Tyler Scott
- WR7: Brennan Presley
- WR8: Mario Williams
- WR9: Tru Edwards
Looking at the depth chart, there is a clear need for a WR3. While there may be some excitement about the potential of Konata Mumpfield, the group of him, Smith, and Whittington are all better suited as WR4/5s and special teams contributors. The Rams need some actual depth behind Nacua and Adams. Mumpfield showed promise, but his spot on the roster isn’t guaranteed. Presley showed some promise in the preseason and continues to develop. The McVay offense combined with Stafford can make wide receivers look better than they are. However, they still need some talented depth.
Potential Roster Spots Available:2-3
Tight End
- TE1: Colby Parkinson
- TE2: Terrance Ferguson
- TE3: Tyler Higbee
- TE4: Davis Allen
- TE5: Mark Redman
At initial glance, the Rams may not look like they need a tight end. With that said, Colby Parkinson is on the final year of his contract along with Davis Allen. Tyler Higbee brings an element of uncertainty as he gets older and struggles to stay healthy. Ferguson has upside, but there is some unknown factor with him as well. The Rams utilized 13 personnel at the highest rate last season. It would not be surprising if they kept five tight ends on the roster. The Rams drafting a tight end at some point shouldn’t be completely ruled out.

Offensive Tackle
- OT1: Alaric Jackson
- OT2: Warren McClendon
- OT3: David Quessenberry
- OT4: AJ Arcuri
There is a very clear need for an offensive tackle in the draft. Quessenberry adds some experience behind Jackson and McClendon. Still, there wouldn’t be a lot of confidence in him if he were to take over at any point. This is someone who played behind DJ Humphries last season. The Rams need to find a swing tackle in the middle rounds who can either develop into a starter or at least a reliable depth option.

Interior Offensive Line
- OC1: Coleman Shelton
- LG1: Steve Avila
- RG1: Kevin Dotson
- iOL4: Justin Dedich
- iOL5: Beaux Limmer
- iOL6: Dylan McMahon
- iOL7: Wyatt Bowles
This is where the Rams might actually be set on the offensive line. It’s very possible that they could look to upgrade their center depth. However, the Rams are confident in Shelton starting and Justin Dedich has been fine as a depth piece to fill in. Limmer has starting experience as well while McMahon and Bowles are developmental options. Kevin Dotson and Steve Avila are on expiring contracts which means that the Rams could draft someone in the middle rounds to develop. However, that may be something that the Rams look to address next offseason.

Defensive Line
- DL1: Kobie Turner
- DL2: Poona Ford
- DL3: Braden Fiske
- DL4: Ty Davis
- DL5: Ty Hamilton
- DL6: Larrell Murchison
- DL7: Bill Norton
Given how much the Rams have invested in the defensive line in recent years, it should come as no surprise that they are mostly set here. The top four are pretty set as Davis took a major step forward in 2025. Where this position gets interesting is after that. Hamilton was underwhelming in limited work and Murchison is a familiar face. Could the Rams add another player here to compete with those two for a final roster spot?
Potential Roster Spots Available: 1
EDGE
- EDGE1: Jared Verse
- EDGE2: Byron Young
- EDGE3: Josaiah Stewart
- EDGE4: Desjuan Johnson
This is still a position where I would like to see the Rams add a veteran option. Byron Young’s contract expires at the end of the season and the Rams simply may not be able to afford him. It should be expected that Josaiah Stewart takes enough of a step forward to where the Rams can feel comfortable with him in 2027. However, a veteran option here would add some needed leadership in this room. The Rams need a player who has been there before in the postseason and ‘closer’ situations for Verse and Stewart to look at in those moments. Johnson showed some promise on the edge last year, but that shouldn’t be the long-term plan for depth.
Potential Roster Spots Available: 1
Linebacker
- LB1: Nate Landman
- LB2: Omar Speights
- LB3: Grant Stuard
- LB4: Shaun Dolac
- LB5: Eli Neal
From the outside looking in, the Rams might have a need for a linebacker. They could look to upgrade over Speights to pair Landman with a more complementary player in coverage. However, the Rams may not see it that way. They just signed Stuard and Dolac pushed Chris Paul Jr. off the roster last year. This is a team likely to keep just four linebackers. If that’s the case, there isn’t a lot of room here for another addition.
Potential Roster Spots Available: 1
Cornerback
- CB1: Trent McDuffie
- CB2: Jaylen Watson
- CB3: Emmanuel Forbes
- CB4: Josh Wallace
- CB5: Cam Lampkin
- CB6: Alex Johnson
The cornerback room for the Rams looks night and compared to last year. Between the losses of Darious Williams, Cobie Durant, Roger McCreary, Derion Kendrick, and Ahkello Witherspoon, the Rams are losing 2,294 snaps at cornerback next season. It’s clear that they felt the room wasn’t good enough. While the Rams traded for McDuffie and signed Watson, there is a clear need for depth. They need depth both inside and on the perimeter. Ideally, they are able to draft someone with inside-out versatility and fill two needs with one player.
Potential Roster Spots Available: 2
Safety
- S1: Quentin Lake
- S2: Kam Kinchens
- S3: Kam Curl
- S4: Jaylen McCollough
- S5: Tanner Ingle
- S6: NateValcarcel
If you work in incident management, seeing the terms “S1” and “S2” may hit a little too close to home. With that out of the way, though, the Rams are pretty set at safety. It was a relative surprise when they re-signed Curl, but it’s clear that the front office wanted to keep this group together. Unless a player like Caleb Downs falls, the Rams aren’t likely to draft a safety. It would be nice to find an upgrade over McCollough, but the Rams may simply scour the undrafted free agents as they have in recent years.
