Mai Anna, alt-R&B rising star and new signee to Epic Records, makes her formal introduction today with her enthralling new single, “Baby Blue,” produced by Solomon Fox and available now. Along with the new single comes its official music video, a wistful take on Mai Anna’s cathartic personal experience. The new single signals the impending arrival of Mai Anna’s debut studio album, Sleepy Eyes, a versatile and vulnerable celebration of the full scope of Mai Anna’s sonic and emotional range, and the ethereal nature of her music. “If we were to define it, it is a dream state of experiencing music,” Mai Anna says of Sleepy Eyes.
Mai Anna’s affinity for world-building, which dates back to community-driven philanthropy during her high school years, is what helped draw Epic Records/Not So Fast —which inked Mai Anna to a deal this year—to her music.

“Baby Blue” The Strikingly Vulnerable Anthem
On “Baby Blue,” Mai Anna asks the listener to navigate themselves to a place of peace using their purest memories as a vessel, a tactic born out of a revealing conversation with her guitarist and friend. “I love making a song after a conversation with someone else because I get all of these interesting details and visuals from their stories,” she says. “Which I can connect to similar experiences and emotions that I’ve had.” The result is the liberating and somewhat whimsical “Baby Blue,” on which Mai Anna flaunts the rich vocals that make her forthcoming album, Sleepy Eyes, a can’t miss event.
The song’s video emphasizes the ‘dream state’ of Mai Anna’s music, as the songstress and her pianist are quickly transported from the floor of an apartment to an ice rink, representing the singer and avid ice skater’s purest memories. On the rink she looks free, twirling and leaping as the “Baby Blue” drumline kicks in, as she sings of shedding the weight of one’s world for however long as possible. Directed by Jamal Peters, the feature utilizes blue hues and intimate lighting to tell a multidimensional story.
This is just the beginning for Mai Anna, who has already begun to raise eyebrows nationally. The NYC native stole the show at Village Studios in Los Angeles earlier this week with an intimate performance where she debuted her “Baby Blue” single live, and helped raise the intrigue around her continued ascent. For someone who used to host concerts in her college dorm room to raise awareness about her talents, Mai Anna’s momentum is earned.
