Rising Country Star Sunny Black Turns Heartbreak Into Anthemic Gold With New Single “Lonely”

Rising country artist Sunny Black has shared his powerhouse new single, “Lonely,” available everywhere now HERE.

Produced by chart-topping songwriter/producer Grady Block and co-written by Black, Block, and GRAMMY® Award-nominated songwriter Jacob Kasher Hindlin, the track is anchored by a rhythmic drumbeat and keening slide guitar, with Black’s warm vocal melting into an intoxicating hook: “Just ‘cause I’m all alone don’t mean that I’m lonely.” “Lonely” is joined by an official visualizer, filmed on location in Black’s home state of North Carolina and streaming now HERE.

“There are a lot of drinking songs, but I wrote ‘Lonely’ from a perspective I’d never heard,” says Sunny Black. “You can always be alone. If you love drinking and drinking loves you, then you’re not always ‘lonely’ though. It’s real because I wrote it after I was on my way home one Friday night, and the neon lights caught my eyes.”

Black will celebrate the arrival of “Lonely” – and more new music to come – with an upcoming live performance at the 36th Annual Keith Whitley Memorial Ride & Show, set for Nashville, TN’s Nashville Palace on Saturday, June 27. Tickets are on sale now.

With his baseball hat pulled down and guitar in hand, Sunny Black brings tangible soul and spirit to country music. The North Carolina-born troubadour simply sings straight from the heart, telling true stories with gritty delivery and the raw echoes of naked chords. Raised in the small town of Lawndale, Black grew up among a big family, living with four of his eleven siblings. Escaping from a hectic household, he primarily listened to N.E.R.D., Erykah Badu, Gucci Mane, and Jeezy until discovering Luke Combs in sixth grade. He quickly immersed himself in the music of Randy Travis, Hank Williams, and more, with the late, great Keith Whitley proving his favorite country singer of all. Black picked up a college friend’s guitar while attending Lenoir-Rhyne University and, realizing that he didn’t want to put it down, went out and got one of his own. Taking to TikTok, he delivered smoldering renditions of Whitley’s “When You Say Nothing at All” and Sam Barber’s “Straight and Narrow,” earning a slew of major co-signs from the likes of Darius Rucker, Gavin Adcock, Riley Green, Cory Asbury, and more. In 2025, Black landed the coveted “Golden Ticket” for American Idol, but chose not to move forward on the show. Instead, he kept grinding on his own, capping off the year with his breakthrough hit single, “I Mean What I Said,” generating over 1M streams and counting. Now, Sunny Black officially introduces himself to the world with “Lonely,” promising more heartfelt, deeply authentic music to come.

“I’m gaining wisdom and knowledge each day,” says Sunny Black. “I know there’s nothing I can’t achieve if I put my mind to it. When I hear my favorite singers, my mood changes. I’m trying to do the same thing for you.”
