TheARTI$t is putting vulnerability at the center of her latest release. The Newark, New Jersey, R&B singer has shared “Rain”, a single about taking responsibility for a strained relationship and asking for another chance, as she continues to provide direct support on the U.S. leg of The Kehlani World Tour.
The release follows her April EP, DND, and her selection as Billboard’s August R&B Up & Comer. With “Rain,” she continues exploring romance and emotional openness while bringing new material to audiences on the road.
TheARTI$t – Press Photo‘Rain’ Centers Accountability and Longing
“Rain” approaches reconciliation from the perspective of someone willing to acknowledge her role in a relationship’s difficulties. Its central plea pairs the desire to reconnect with an admission that repairing the relationship requires accountability.
The release materials describe an arrangement built around stacked vocals, harmonies, background parts, and layered melodies. Those elements place emphasis on TheARTI$t’s voice, supporting the song’s themes of longing and emotional exposure.
The single extends the focus on love established in her earlier work, this time concentrating on the uncertainty of asking someone to return. Romance is presented alongside regret, with the narrator making clear how much she wants another opportunity.
Building on ‘DND’
Released in April, DND brought additional attention to TheARTI$t’s songwriting and vocal approach. Its track “S.I.M.P.L.E.” earned a place on Consequence’s “100 Best Songs of 2026 So Far”.
Writing about the EP, GQ South Africa highlighted her decision to carry the project without guest features:
“The most striking thing about DND isn’t who is on the record, but who isn’t. In an era where tracklists often look like a crowded venue, TheARTI$t decided to go at it alone and quite frankly she didn’t need any help.”
That attention provides context for “Rain,” which continues to position her voice and perspective at the center of the music.
Taking the Music to Kehlani’s Audience
TheARTI$t’s release arrives during a touring stretch alongside Kehlani, Durand Bernarr, DIXSON and WASEEL.
The run has included a Barclays Center appearance, where Billboard noted her “signature ethereal sound.”
She has also returned to the stage with the other opening performers for a performance of “Unlearn”, adding a collaborative moment to a tour that brings together several approaches to contemporary R&B.
For TheARTI$t, the dates provide an opportunity to introduce her catalog to larger audiences while continuing to release new music. “Rain” adds another chapter to that catalog, returning to the questions of love, self-awareness, and emotional honesty that have shaped her work.
