Will Alabama closed primary bill hurt Republicans? ‘I hope y’all pass it,’ Democrat says

A bill to require that Alabama voters register a party affiliation before voting in primary elections moved ahead Tuesday in the Legislature.

HB541 by Rep. Ernie Yarbrough, R-Trinity, was approved by the Senate State Governmental Affairs Committee on a 7-2 vote after a public hearing where lawmakers heard pros and cons about the bill.
