Young players get plenty of work as South Alabama football scrimmages under lights

Just as it will be two weeks from now when it kicks off the 2026 season vs. Southeastern Louisiana, South Alabama football was under the lights at Hancock Whitney Stadium on Saturday night.

Partly to simulate the game day action it will experience on Sept. 5 and partly to take a break from the brutally hot weather that has characterized most of camp, the Jaguars shifted their second and final scrimmage of the preseason from a 10 a.m. start to 6 p.m. South Alabama ran 100-plus plays for the second straight Saturday, working in some two-minute drill and red-zone situations while also getting younger players plenty of reps.
