U.S. Sen. Katie Britt, R-Ala, has been a negotiator in bipartisan talks to fund the Department of Homeland Security, routinely calling on Democrats to come to the table and fund the agency.

But Britt, who chairs the Homeland Security Appropriations Subcommittee, has been publicly silent in the hours since her fellow Republicans in the House of Representatives rejected the agreement she helped negotiate.
